Partin Honored for GAL Service
David A. Partin of Camden has been selected as the 2012 Direct Service Volunteer award winner by the S.C. Association for Volunteer Administration (SCAVA). He has been a volunteer Guardian ad Litem (GAL) in Kershaw County since June 2007. During that time, he has served 30 children on 18 cases.
David is married, has a son, and works full time yet he makes time to meet the unique needs of each child in his cases. From advocating at court to working with schools, agencies and organizations to facilitate programming that will benefit his guardian children, Partin passionately pursues his volunteer work. He welcomes continuing education opportunities through in-services, workshops and conferences, as he strives to do more and be aware of what is available for the children he serves.
David told National CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) that it was his dad, Pat Partin, who instilled in him the importance of giving back to the community. David began volunteering at 14 and now at 31 continues to follow his father's guidance.
The Direct Service Volunteer Award, together with the volunteer awards from other categories, was presented in April by Governor Nikki R. Haley. David was out of the country and unable to attend the presentation ceremony. His father, Pat Partin accepted the award on his behalf. Elizabeth May, coordinator of the Kershaw County Volunteer Guardian ad Litem program, joined Pat at the presentation.
